Get to Know Us
As you may or not already know, Trevor and Karen have set up a dog rescue Sanctuary in Bali and have a registered charity in Australia.
The journey started for us in August 2022, when Karen saw a post of a young lady, Nia, in Bali rescuing sick and badly hurt dogs. Karen straight away started sending money to help, however Trevor wanted to be sure it was all legitimate, so within 2 weeks we were on a plane and landing in Bali to investigate.
What they found, blew them both away! Nia was living with her grandparents in a shack on a 10m x 10m block of land, (tiny), with approx 50 dogs she had rescued, as well as approx. 40 cats. They were living in poverty, yet were somehow looking after all these animals! The love she has for the dogs was incredible! They would go without to ensure the dogs and cats were fed. During that first visit, Karen made her first rescue! See below to the watch the story of Lunar;

We have been sponsoring them ever since. Early in 2023 we could see the numbers of rescues were increasing so we started looking for a site to rent. After months of searching we found a property that had previously been a dog boarding facility, however it had closed down during covid. In September 2023, we signed a six year lease, paying the full rent in advance. We then commenced renovating the property, installing an internal kitchen and external kitchen, bathroom, a living area for Nia and her partner Gusmang, building 62 large dog kennels, double height around the perimeter of the back yard, as well as 38 internal kennels. New fencing, gates, awnings, pavements, sewer, stormwater, security, etc. The building is pretty much all finished now!
We have also set up a not for profit foundation and had it registered in Bali and just recently we were approved as a charity in Australia called Bali Dog Love & Light.
We now have approx 160 dogs! These are all rescues! Please note, we only rescues dogs in urgent need! There are so many amazing stories! See below link to the story of Clare, another rescue..... (Please note she has had her Cherry eye surgery since this video was made.)

Once we make a rescue, the dog is taken to the vet for a full check up! They are provided with all necessary vaccinations, desexing, and once given the all clear they are brought to the sanctuary, where they are loved and looked after. All our dogs are treated with respect and love. We endeavour to find new homes for each dog, although this can be challenging, especially for the older dogs and the Bali street dogs. We have to be very particular with who we adopt them to, as to ensure they will be looked after. People have been known to adopt them and then sell them to the meat market. We have a process to ensure whoever adopts them is monitored to ensure they look after them.
We currently have 10 staff, who look after the dogs, feed and wash them and play with them. There is always one extra person on night shift, so it is a 24hrs, 7 days a week responsibility. There are also a lot of ongoing costs, including wages, dog food, cleaning, maintenance, vet bills, utility bills, etc, etc. Up to this point Karen and Trevor have paid for everything and we have invested a huge amount of money in setting the sanctuary up and maintaining it. However, now it is set up, we are hoping for "Dog Lovers" out there to help us, by supporting us with ongoing monthly sponsorship.'
Every dollar given will go directly to looking after the dogs. We guarantee that none of the money will be used for anything else, not for any travelling costs, not anything other than the dogs!
We have set up a bank account in Australia under the Charity to be used solely for the Dog Rescue Sanctuary with the money then transferred to the Bali Love & Light Foundation in Bali. Every dollar will be tracked and accounted for and we will be happy to show proof of this to anyone who wishes to review. We would also welcome anyone travelling Bali to visit the Rescue Sanctuary.
"Many hands make lite work", so we are keen for your support!
